Brand presence measures the percentage of AI search responses in which a brand appears, such as appearing in 30% of responses in a given period.

Definition

Brand Presence goes beyond a simple yes-or-no test of visibility. It quantifies how often a brand shows up across all relevant Responses to user queries. For example, if a brand appears in 30 out of 100 Responses for a given category in a month, its Brand Presence is 30%.

This metric is an important foundation for understanding competitiveness in AI search. It reveals whether a brand is consistently part of the conversation or only appears occasionally. While Brand Mentions count individual references within a Response, Brand Presence focuses on how broadly a brand is represented across multiple Responses.

For marketers and agencies, tracking Brand Presence provides a straightforward benchmark. It can show whether efforts in Generative Engine Optimization (GEO) are increasing visibility, whether competitors are overtaking share, or whether a brand is absent altogether in key categories.

Use cases

  • Measuring the percentage of Responses that include your brand in a given period.

  • Benchmarking presence against competitors across platforms like Google AI Overviews or Perplexity AI Search.

  • Identifying categories where your brand has little or no presence.

  • Tracking changes in presence over time to assess the impact of optimization efforts.

  • Using presence data as a baseline for deeper analysis of Brand Position and Brand Perception.
