About

Diario El Mundo is one of El Salvador's oldest independent newspapers, founded in San Salvador in 1967 and published digitally since it closed its print edition in 2024. Its newsroom covers national politics, the economy, banking and finance, business, sports and technology, with Economia and Empresarial desks that track Salvadoran banks, lending rates, remittances and public finances. It writes for a general Salvadoran audience at home and abroad in a plain, reported style, and reports over 4 million monthly readers.

Editor-in-chief

Álvaro Cruz Rojas has led the newsroom as editor-in-chief since 2005. The paper was founded in 1967 by Dr. Juan José Borja Nathan and is now chaired by Juan José Borja Papini, president of Editora El Mundo, who has kept the founding commitment to independent, pluralistic reporting.
